This webinar took place on September 24, 2026. Hosted by the Los Angeles County Perinatal and Early Childhood Home Visitation Consortium’s Best Practices Workgroup, this virtual webinar provided an overview and refresher on motivational interviewing techniques for professionals who work with young children and families.

Patrick Flippin-Weston, Senior Training Coordinator at LA Best Babies Network, introduced participants to the five principles of motivational interviewing and strategies for using affirming, family-centered communication to support positive behavior change. Participants also explored ways to encourage clients to identify and set meaningful goals for themselves and their families.

Through role-playing activities and vignette discussions, participants had opportunities to practice communication skills and consider how motivational interviewing can be incorporated into their work with families.
